wetranstech provides not only multimedia translation but also medical device translation services.
Last week we received an inquiry from our client about a review task. The working files include English source file, Japanese translated file and a Trados package. The translating was not done by us and the end user made revions in the translated file with their comments. Our task is as below:
Check the comments of the client and create a glossary with the new terms proposed by the client.
Check the comments of the client and propose some style comments for future projects. We would like to have comments on how the client prefers to express things, because this is the first time we work on a marketing text for this client.
Introduce the changes in the Trados package we will provide.
We took up this task and assigned it to a linguist who has rich experience in translating files about medical device translation. He checked all the 77 revisions and made a glossary list based on the new terms proposed by the client. Meanwhile, he updated the translations accordingly in the Trados with track changes. Finally, the linguist provided his comments as below:
Style: Due to its scientific profoundness of the field, it is important to keep the terms accurate (referencing/updating its glossary list is a must), while maintaining the simpleness and clarity of the sentences. Each sentence should not be complex. This is my personal opinion, though, the client is conscious of making the headings decently appealing to the readers.
Tone: Neutral and polite but not too much honorific. Well-balanced between friendliness or casualness and politeness.
Others: May be able to suggest to the client:
Establishing the rules of notations in marketing catalogs, such as:
-Spacing rules between single/double bite characters.
-font styles consistency (some were bolded, others were not) etc.
Upon receipt of all the files, we did in-house checking before delivering to our client. After discussing with the linguist, we added some words in the glossary list based on the revisions. The others were all completed very well. So we delivered without further revisons. The whole process took about 8 hours.
