Case Study
Project Background
This is a totally free real-time sandbox strategy mobile game produced and released by Netease Games. The client asked for a localized version of the game in Japanese.
Project Challenge
Solution
Tried out the game
First, we invited them to play the game, so that they could fully understand the game process, the concept, and the slang, etc. Usually, we would play the game in order to fully study and understand the context in the process of translation.Wrote the style guide
To ensure that the localization version would be as accurate and consistent as possible with the brand, we often asked the client to fill out the style guide summary and then had our team comply with the requirements. The style guide specified the tone of the translation, usage of specific slang, brand style, acronyms, correct forms, etc. A style guide helped translators to be consistent with the brand and its information, so that everything about the brand was consistent.Developed a schedule
In order to ensure on-time delivery, we developed a schedule and delivered work to clients in batches, and it was also convenient for the PM to follow up in a timely manner.Created the glossary table and Glossary
Terms were the most important and frequently used words and phrases, including specialized terms such as character names, place names, and article names. The glossary table allowed the localization team to ensure consistency in game translation. In addition, the glossary table could be used to improve the speed of translation significantly, because the translators could refer to it at any time. The glossary table was completed and sent to the client for confirmation to ensure accuracy and compliance with the client’s requirements.Summarized the translators' questions
In the process of the project, an online query form was created, and the translators filled in any question in time. The editor reviewed the query form, and would send it to the client for confirmation, if anything was unresolved.Project proofreading
After the editing process was completed, the in-house QA personnel repeated the QA process. It would ensure no minor errors, consistency in terms, character length and style in accordance with the client’s requirements.Gathered client feedback
Any feedback received from the client would be uniformly revised by the editor, until the client was satisfied.Result
Finally, we delivered quality work to the client who was thrilled, and as a result, we were able to work with this client again on game projects in other languages.
